A World Elsewhere: new radio drama by Clara Glynn
Tune in to Radio 4 on Tuesday 30th June at 14:15 to hear Clara Glynn's bold new drama about the radicalisation of a young woman from Glasgow.
Rida is a Glasgow teenager. Like a lot of teenagers she argues with her mum, stresses about exams and spends too long on her computer. But as a young Muslim the pressures that she faces in her life, and the escape that she dreams of online, may contain dangers she has yet to imagine.
This innovative radio drama all takes place in Rida's online world - the place where she feels she can most be herself. We listen to the YouTube clips she finds, her instant messaging with friends and the bloggers she reads.
A WORLD ELSEWHERE is a sensitive portrayal of one girl's path to radicalisation.
Hagar by Clara Glynn and Sally Beamish
In celebration of Benjamin Britten’s centenary year, Nova Music Opera present an intriguing operatic double-bill exploring the themes of loss, redemption and forgiveness.
The Old Testament story of Hagar and Abraham is vividly brought to life by multi award-winning composer Sally Beamish and librettist Clara Glynn in their new chamber opera, Hagar in the Wilderness. The opera’s uncomfortable account of social injustice is particularly pertinent in society today and in many ways echoes similar sentiments conveyed in Curlew River.
It will be performed on Wednesday 21 August, 7.45pm at St Andrew’s Church, Presteigne (details)
